Fifteen years of chiropractic experience:

Active Release Technique (A.R.T) is a hands-on treatment protocol for soft tissue pain and dysfunction. A.R.T. works on scar tissue (adhesions). Scar tissue is the main cause of soft tissue pain and dysfunctions. Think of soft tissue dysfunctions as muscles, tendons and ligaments not working properly. Dysfunctions from scar tissue will cause more scar tissue, which is why so many soft tissue injuries get worse over time. Scar tissue can also trap or irritate nerves, causing pain. If left too long, this can lead to permanent nerve damage. With A.R.T., your doctor can locate scar tissue that has built up and break it down, making it more supple and functional. This is accomplished by specifically applied tension to the scar tissue while moving the soft tissue through a full range of motion.

Graston Technique (GT) is instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization technique that was designed to treat scar tissue restriction and contractures in soft tissues. Graston breaks down and desensitizes scar tissue, increases blood flow to involved region, and increases cellular healing. One of the reasons Graston is effective is that it is thought to cause resolution of inflammatory response. This means it completes the healing cycle that fails in so many soft tissue injuries leading to chronic pain.

Both A.R.T. and Graston help:

  • Neck and Back pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Hip, Knee and Ankle pain
  • Shoulder and Elbow pain
  • Foot pain
  • Headaches
  • Rotator cuff pain
  • Shin splints
  • Jaw pain
  • Nerve impingements
  • Tendonitis
  • Repetitive strains
  • Whiplash
  • Leg or sciatic pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Accupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine is very different from that of Western medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, imbalances in the basic energetic flow of life — known as Qi— are thought to cause illness. Qi is believed to flow through 20 major pathways (meridians) in your body. These meridians and the energy flow are accessible through approximately 400 different acupuncture points. By inserting extremely fine needles into these acupuncture points in various combinations, energy flow is rebalanced. This allows the body's natural healing mechanisms to take over.

Dr. Jennifer Nelson focuses on a holistic approach through her practice of TCM, combining the use of accupuncture, Chinese herbs, and nutrition to bring the body into balance. Dr. Nelson is deeply committed to women's health issues and has taken extensive training in gynecology, infertility, obstetrics and pediatrics.

Dr. Nelson successfully uses Traditional Chinese Medicine and Accupuncture to help patients with:
